Is the earth really round?
I have 2 nuggets for you; A list for entrepreneurs & an angry poem.
So I’m not sure if you know - My day job is to run retail operations for a really cool slow fashion label - Purple Potato.
My mission?
To strategically expand our market presence, amplify revenue streams consistently, month after month, season after season.
yup, that’s a mouthful. It's not always smooth sailing, mind you.
Selling garments designed to endure, crafted for longevity, and advocating for reduced consumption poses its own set of challenges in an industry often driven by fast fashion and fleeting trends.
But, I love fashion for good - and more than that - a good challenge.
It’s no biggie that writing is an equal love for me.
Sometimes when I'm at the warehouse, I start thinking about all the stories I could write about.
How cool & state-of-the-art our manufacturing unit is, how our team can blast each other’s head but then also have lunch together, how I’m growing up in the retail fashion space - having studied economics of all things.
It's like having two favorite toys to play with. Building a big puzzle, figuring out which pieces fit together just right. And painting pictures with words.
This week is special. I have 2 nuggets for you. A list & a poem.
Reflecting on my journey as a Head of Business Development for Purple Potato: The Vintage Boutique for the last three years, I've picked up some skills along the way.
Let's keep it real:
1. Building genuine connections is at the heart of what I do. From clients to colleagues, forging strong relationships is essential for success.
2. In the world of business, change is constant. I've learned to adapt quickly to shifting landscapes, whether it's in markets, technology, or strategies.
3. Every move I make is part of a bigger strategy. Whether it's identifying new opportunities or navigating challenges, strategic thinking guides my decisions.
4. Negotiation isn't just about getting what you want; it's about finding mutually beneficial solutions. I've honed my negotiation skills to find win-win outcomes.
5. Let's face it, not every deal goes as planned. Resilience is key to bouncing back from setbacks and staying focused on long-term goals.
6. Clear, effective communication is the cornerstone of successful partnerships. Whether it's pitching ideas or resolving conflicts, communication is key.
7. The business world is always evolving, and I'm committed to continuous learning and self-improvement. Staying curious keeps me ahead of the curve.
But thinking of the environment all the time can be exhausting. It's frustrating. The constant battle between convenience and conscience.
Every time I reach for a candy bar wrapped in layers of plastic, I feel a pang of guilt gnawing at me. And don't even get me started on late-night cravings; ordering a quick bite from Swiggy, only to remember to deselect the unnecessary plastic cutlery option at checkout.
It's a never-ending cycle of small decisions, each one carrying the weight of its environmental impact.
Sometimes, I just wish it were easier to do the right thing without having to jump through hoops or sacrifice convenience.
Here’s a poem I wrote inspired by this.
IS THE EARTH REALLY ROUND?
~ A poem by Mohika Mudgal
Ah, the roundness of this damned Earth. They say it's a sphere, a globe spinning through the void of space. But what does it matter? Round or flat, it's all the same to me. I've walked its streets, stumbled through its alleys, and felt the weight of its gravity pulling me down, down, down. But there's something about the idea of it being round that tickles the imagination, isn't there? A giant ball suspended in the cosmos, swirling with life and chaos. Maybe it's comforting to think of it that way, a small marble in the vastness of the universe, a speck of dust in the cosmic wind. Yet, in the end, does it really matter if it's round or flat? We're just tiny creatures scurrying across its surface, trying to make sense of our existence. Whether round or flat, it's still home, for better or for worse. And that's enough for me, at least for now.
